Assalamu

The honorable jury of Erlangga English Speech Contest 2018, and
all participants of Erlangga English Speech Contest 2018, good morning.
First of all, let’s thank to Allah the Almighty who has given us
many mercies and blessing so we can join this program without any troubles.
Secondly, prayers and greetings, Let’s keep pouring on our lord
the great prophet Muhammad SAW who we look forward to his help in the Day of
Resurrection.
Thirdly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Thalita
Salsabila, my friends usually call me Thalita. I am a student of SMPN 2 Ngawi.
My motivation on joining this speech contest is simple. I want to test my bravery,
I want to test my English mastery, and I like the contests like this. May the
Yuri choose me as the winner of this contest? Aamiin…!
Well, ladies and gentlemen, in this occasion I would like to
deliver a speech about “Reading makes me successful” Let me begin with a
story.
Last week, I read an interesting article which shows me about
how important of reading the book is. And by reading that article, I know that
success can be reached by reading. Don’t you believe me? Let’s prove!
Do you know Warren Buffet?
Do you know Barack Obama?
And, do you know who Bill Gates is?
Yes, you are right. They are successful men who like reading.
ladies and gentlemen,
Warren Buffet is a man of eighty four years old who successfully
placed himself as the richest man in the world. Even though his day was busy
filled with various activities taking care of the big business that had been
pioneered, but he never forgot to always update his knowledge by reading
various newspapers ranging from local, national to international.
Barack Obama. Who don’t khow him?
When he was a president in a superpower, it would certainly be
understandable if Barack Obama no longer had the time to read books, newspapers,
or may be news portals. Because he can ask his assistant to find the latest
information he need. But in fact, the Afro-America-blooded president chose to
read for himself various readings that he felt he needed to read.
Obama will spend his time in the morning reading daily
newspapers, magazines, even various online pages such as blogs and websites.
From there he got information about developments in his country and
internationally. Obama's habit has been done since he was little. Maybe because
of this, Obama appeared as one of the smartest people in the world.
Bill Gates. Everybody khow him and nearly all people in this
world use his invention.
Microsoft inventor, Bill Gates also became one of the successful
people who never abandoned their reading habits. In fact, this man who already
has billions of dollars in wealth is always loyal to read various books that he
considers useful to add insight as a businessman.
Every week, Bill Gates will "force" himself to spend a
book that is considered useful. Not only books, Bill Gates also became a loyal
reader of the New York Times, Wall Street, and several other newspapers. Bill
Gates's busyness does not make him indifferent to loosen various kinds of
reading material which he thinks is useful to read.
Ladies and gentlemen,
By learning about the habbit of great men which I had told above
surely can prove that reading is very important for us.
Ladies and gentlemen!
Reading is an activity that has many benefits. Besides adding
insight and information, reading can also be beneficial for the brain and the
human body. Several studies and experiments have been carried out by experts on
this matter. The following is a review of the benefits of reading for the brain
and the human body.
1.
Give strength to memory.
Parts
of the brain will develop other functions such as imagination ability, language
and associative learning, all connected in certain neural circuits when
reading. Reading habits can stimulate the brain to think and concentrate.
2.
Overcoming stress.
Reading
creates a situation where there readers feel as if they are in the place where
they read in and forget all their problems.
3.
Keep brain organs active
and sharp.
Activities
that involve brain training make the brain more efficiently change the structure
to continue to function properly, regardless of neuropathological matters
related to age, reading books as a hobby from the age of children to old age,
great benefits for brain health in old age later.
4.
Prevent Alzheimer's
disease or senility
Empathy
includes the ability to feel the emotional state of others, feel sympathetic
and try to solve problems, and take the perspective of others. This ability can
be sharpened by reading a lot.
Ladies and gentlemen!
Evidently reading contains much of benefit for us. I like this
hobby since I was a child. By reading I can know everything. I know what I
never see. No wrong if there is a word of wisdoms, “book is a window to the world”. I prove it. I hope I can be the
successful woman in the future. Like Warren Buffet, Barack Obama and Bill Gates
who hold important role in the world. Aamiin…!
Ladies and gentlemen,
Finally, I would like to end this speech by saying “Let’s make reading not only as a hobby but
as a need.” Good luck for us!
Thank you very much.
Wassalamu’alaikum
